While my Facebook wall is overflowing with information about my acquaintances' vacations, I'm working from home today.
I was tired of sitting around, so I went to a coffee shop a little far away for a cup of coffee, and found this at a passing bike shop.
SUZUKI SV650
This liquid-cooled V-twin, based on the GLADIUS, is a competitor to the MT-07. I heard that it was released yesterday, so the test ride was being prepared, and even the catalog hadn't arrived yet, but I got to see it for myself. There was a key in the ignition, so I turned it around, but it seemed that the battery was not connected (or charged) yet.
It may be because I'm looking at it in the store, but the body is very compact, not much different from a VTR250. The seat height is said to be 785mm, and with the slimness of the V-twin, it has a very comfortable footing.
The price is 10,000 yen cheaper than MT-07, so it's not that elaborate. The swingarm looks like a square piece of wood.
The steering wheel area is also simple. Oh, a full digital meter. But it's a bar-han, and it looks like a comfortable position to ride in.
The switches are a bit cheesy, I guess. I was told that a light press on the cell will automatically start the engine.
The V-twin engine can be seen from the other side, but the frame blocks the full view. I wonder if it's possible to make a design that shows off the engine nicely like the American.
There was an S version of the old SV400/650, and there was also a half cowl model. I've seen a lot of them on my touring trips, and I actually like their styling a lot.
I wonder if they'll release a model like this around 800cc instead of 650:........
