Riding a motorcycle to work during the rainy season
I wrote about it in an article at the beginning of the year. And yes, my Ninja 650, which was a long term stock car from 2015, has tires produced in the first half of 2014!...
The end of the fiscal year was extremely busy, the rental bikes were in progress, and the touring in Northern Tohoku was cancelled, so the odometer has only increased by 5,000 km in the last six months, but it is indeed time to change the tires.
I think I can ride a little longer in terms of the remaining grooves, but the grip is unreliable, perhaps because of the hardening of the rubber, or perhaps because I have experienced many sport tires on rental bikes.
Today, I was riding my motorcycle around Tokyo, including the Tokyo Metropolitan Expressway, on my way to work during the rainy season. "Oh, the tires are done." I reaffirmed my feeling.
Thinking about changing tires. Go to Rough and Road Kawasaki.
So I dropped by 2Rinkan in Minami Senzoku on my way back home, but the only tires that fit the set were about two generations old. The Mizonokuchi store had PIRELLI Angel STs and the like (well, these were also a generation old), so I just checked the air pressure and moved on.
I don't usually stop by there, but I went to the Rough and Road Kawasaki store near my house, where I received a postcard for the summer sale.
Falling the other dayThe helmet that I hit on the side of the head with in the last race might need to be retired... So, I checked the helmet section first.
This one was also scratched during a fall, but still usable.Photochromic ShieldSo, the best candidate for replacement is the same Z-7 as now.
There was also SHOEI's latest system helmet, the NEOTECH II, so I tried it on. But the light weight and compactness of the Z-7 is still the strongest.
Hmmm. It's listed without tax, so for a moment I thought, "Oh, it's cheap!" I thought, but Amazon's discount rate is way higher than mine even though it's on sale.
Now I have to decide if I want to buy the monochromatic model or the same Terminus as before... I guess.
Angels, Elephants, or War Axes?
After checking the helmet, I went to the tire section. When the sale postcard came, I checked the Web site."Trying to get a super discount on radial tires." I was expecting to see a lot of people.
So I looked at the price sheet and found .... Oh! That's way cheaper than the other stores I saw on the web beforehand!
...I took a picture in the store, but I didn't record the price part... I borrowed the one from the Rough and Road website, and it looked like this.
The tire size for the old Ninja 650 is 120/70 ZR17 M/C (58W) in the front and 160/60 ZR17 M/C (69W) in the back, so whichever tire you choose will cost around 40,000 yen including labor. It's not a cheap price, but it's more than 5,000 yen cheaper than other stores, including the cost of tire replacement and disposal. In the first place, there are few stores that sell sets of relatively new tires that I want to wear, so I'm already OK with this place for tire replacement.
Now I just have to decide which one... I'm not sure.

PIRELLI ANGEL GT
|
This was my first choice because of the good reviews and my impressions of the previous model Angel ST on my Ninja 400. The angel pattern is carved so shallowly that only the devil pattern can be seen after 1,000km of driving. |
METZLER ROADTEC 01
|
This is a German tire that has been surpassing the Angel GT, which was for a long time the highest rated touring tire, by word of mouth. It is said to be the most sporting tire in the touring category. |
BRIDGESTONE BATTLAX S21 |
BATTLAX is an acronym for BATTLE AXE, right? I'll leave that aside for a moment and say that all of the Stofas I rented this year wore sports tires for public roads.
I thought that the reason why StoFy was so fun to drive was probably due to the tires, so this is the next one! But it's rainy season, and even if it's not, I'll be riding in the rain. But it's rainy season, and even if it's not, I'll be riding in the rain. So this is my third choice at the moment. |
As you can see from the price list above, I decided to pass on MICHELIN's ROAD 5, which is the newest and most rain-resistant model at the moment, because its pattern is too unique.
Now, which one should I choose?
