First Izu of the season after a morning of sleeping in
Wake up at 8:00 a.m. Departure was at 9:00 a.m. It was a late morning as usual. When I got down to the parking lot, it seemed that it had rained during the night, and the bike cover and the ground were wet.
If I had woken up earlier, I would have taken the Shiga-Kusatsu Kogen route, which opened just yesterday and the autumn leaves have already begun to change color at elevations above 1,500 meters, but it was the last day of the consecutive holidays and I wanted to come back early, so I gave up.
So, as usual, I took a random route. I took the Tomei Expressway from the Kawasaki Interchange, which is the closest expressway entrance to my house (6 km)....
It was my first time in Izu this season. I paid the fare to the Yamabushi Pass and started touring along the classic Izu Skyline - Nishi-Izu Skyline course. The sky was not clear at all, but...
The weather forecast for the Nishi-Izu area on my phone said that there was no need to worry about rain and that there would be some sunshine. I wore a long-sleeved shirt and a mesh jacket, so I felt a little chilly, but we made good progress. I made the mistake of passing the Yamabushi Pass Interchange exit once because it was in the opposite lane, but it went relatively smoothly....
Unfortunately, we couldn't enjoy the Nishi-Izu Skyline due to the foggy weather at all the scenic spots, but we quickly reached Nishi-Izu while enjoying the engine that felt better with the autumn temperature.
A bowl of rice topped with squid since it was sunny
Once we got off the mountain, it cleared up!
The weather was fine, just right for a mesh jacket that was chilly in the fog. It's a little difficult to choose the right clothing this time of year... We had lunch at a place we've been to before.
The parking lot was full because the restaurant was introduced on TV. The parking lot was full, and there was a line of people waiting to get into the restaurant, but I took a peek at the fresh seafood and souvenir corner attached to the restaurant before taking a seat. I had lunch with my usual bowl of rice topped with squid and geso butter.
When you're done eating....Akaihama open-air bath (mixed bath)The first day of the festival is a three-day weekend and the weather is fine, so there will be girls in swimsuits....Footbath on the beach at Unmi OnsenI thought I'd go to the beach and have a canned coffee and a footbath while looking at the ocean... But the temperature was rising fast and it was hot in Nishi-Izu... But the temperature was rising fast and it was hot in Nishi-Izu... I decided to just take a short drink break at a convenience store and keep running.
Proper touring is fun!
Normally I would have chosen the route from HAKATSUZAKI to ISHIROZAKI, but I took a short cut due to my late start. We took the Jaishi Pass route. Since this area is usually used when passing from the Higashi-Izu area to the Nishi-Izu area, it was somewhat refreshing to go in the opposite direction.
It was a pleasant ride along the narrow roads that I like. Fast winding along the ocean is fun, but narrow roads in the mountains are also wonderful. It is a good point of Izu touring that both can be enjoyed.
We took a break at the roadside station, Shimogamo Onsen Yunohana, which appeared when we passed through Minami Izu. I thought I'd get some soft-serve ice cream first... I ordered a soft-serve of onsen melon at the store, but...
Oh, it's not the cone one... I like soft-serve ice cream with a cone or waffle cone.
But after enjoying the delicious food, we went to the footbath on the premises. A large sign on the shoulder of the road says"hot spring bath designed for soaking one's feet"However, it is located in a secluded part of the site and is not easy to find.
Izu is close and easy to get home.
After the break, we headed north through the city of Shimoda. I took a break at my favorite spot where I could see the ocean very beautifully....
We started running again. It would have been fine to continue along the coast to Higashi-Izu, but we decided to take the toll road for a quicker way home. Passing through the Kawazu Loop Bridge...
Even though it was the last day of a three-day weekend, there was no traffic jam on the road, and we went through without stopping at Amagi Pass or Joren no Taki to get to Taikan-yama from the Izu Skyline again.
We descended the Turnpike after the sun had gone down, looking at the moon and the city lights. The fuel warning light started blinking around here, so I refueled at the bottom of the road....
I took the Seishonen - Odata Atsu - Tomei highway and buzzed home. I had dinner at a steakhouse near my house with meat and all-you-can-eat salad....
Today's touring is over. Maybe it's time to change the chain....
