以Previously rented GSX-S750I was really into the Ninja 650, but I couldn't make up my mind without riding a 1000, so I decided to rent one. The full cowl "F" is too much like the Ninja 650, so I wanted to ride the unmarked StoFy, but the only cheap rental bike I could find was the "F". So, here's the result. Suzuki bacterial infections. There was a store near the Kan-etsu Interchange that had a vehicle that could be rented at a reasonable price, but it was fully booked. I couldn't wait.I'm going to Mito to rent a car and head for Nikko.I drove it for about 300km, from suburban roads with good flow, to city streets, to winding roads, to highways.
So, here are my impressions. As usual, this is the ramblings of an amateur.
Lovely place.
Everything is just right.
This is the second bike I'm thinking of adding to my collection, and my main wife is a Ninja 650, but I'm not sure how I feel about the size of the bike (riding position, weight, etc.), the torque and power (output) .... And above all, the price range of used cars. A lot of things just feel right.
I'm planning to introduce the unmarked one."F"The price drop seems to be larger than the price of a car, and if you look for a car, you can find one at a reasonable price.
The actual power is 109 kW (148 PS) at 10,000 rpm and 107 N・m (10.9 kgf・m) at 9,500 rpm. It's not the same as other liter class cars, but it's very linear. I can feel that it's stupidly fast, but I'm not afraid to drive it with some rpm from the moment I borrowed it. It's a bit bigger than the Ninja 650, so it's more comfortable to ride. The seat height is almost the same as the Ninja 650, so both feet are well planted, and the slightly wider bar handlebars and slightly more forward lean than on the Ninja 650 give you more legroom for city riding, and a better position for enjoying the scenery. If you look at them side by side, the height of the handle is totally different!
The engine is good. Fun to drive.
It is a wonderful engine with the same beauty that I felt on the GSX-S750. It is fun to open and close the throttle, and the engine feel is not too smooth on the rise and fall of the rpm, and has a slightly rough presence.
Well equipped.
Although some parts of the car body seem to be cost-cutting, it is well equipped for running. Ultra-thick aluminum swing arm like the GSX-RRadial mount Brembo calipers.3-mode (4-mode including OFF) switchable traction control Aluminum bar handles made by RenthalNaturally equipped with front and rear ABS Fully adjustable Kayaba upside down front forks. The outer tube is painted gold, my favorite color.
A reliable suspension system.
Standard setting is too hard....However, this is probably within the range that can be managed by adjusting the preload and dampers. Aside from that, the suspension provides a very secure driving feel. As usual, the quality of the tires may have a lot to do with it. This time, the car was running Dunlop SPORTMAX D214 tires. The odometer showed that the tires had good grooves for less than 7,000 km, so they looked like they were relatively new tires that had been replaced.
Hmm? What is it?
There are a few, but some of them seem to have been resolved with minor changes in 2017: ...... So some of them only apply to the 2016 model and earlier that we rented this time.
Hypersensitive throttle response.
The response to the gas pedal is a bit too sensitive. As rumored, even a slight movement of the wrist over a gap on a rough road made the engine react a little awkwardly. In this video, when the car is cornering on a rough road surface, you can hear that the gas pedal work is strange.
Well, I guess this is due to my lack of skill, so I'm sure it will go away once I get used to riding.
Be careful to close the gas pedal.
The back-torque when the gas pedal is closed is large, and this is also the cause of the awkwardness. Incidentally, it has a slipper clutch from the 2017 model year. The back torque limiter is not officially mentioned, but the description says that it "prevents the rear wheels from locking or hopping due to excessive engine braking when downshifting, etc., and limits the back torque transmitted from the rear wheels", so it seems to have the function. So I guess if you buy a 2017 model you'll be fine: ..... There aren't any overpriced/cheap used ones yet....... This may be Suzuki's way of telling us to control the throttle as much when closing as when opening.
Suspension setting. Especially the rear suspension.
The rear bounces.Even a slightly larger gap at a highway seam can make your ass float a little. However, this can be reduced by adjusting the preload and dampers, according to other people's impressions. The standard suspension is designed for two-seater highway use, so this is a small negative point.
Cost reduction is evident.
Compared to the Ninja 1000, the Ninja 1000 is a little over 100,000 cheaper at list price. However, the Ninja 1000 also has ETC and advanced electronic control, so the Ninja 1000 may look a little too cheap in comparison. The most interesting part is the key cylinder. This is the part that you can see while driving, so it could use a little more decoration. In addition, the sidestand, which is made of a steel pipe and doesn't feel very good to put in and out, and the quality of the parts shared with the GSX-S750, such as the grips and gauges, are a cut above the competition. But I'll forgive it because the markings on the passing switch are unnecessarily cute.
"F"But the wind protection is weak.
This may be a minus point for those who are planning to use the "F" as a high-speed tourer, but I have no problem with it since I consider the unmarked one as my exclusive vehicle for traveling within 150km one way, winding roads and work in Tokyo.
summary
A great bike that is a true extension of the GSX-S750: .... However, partly because I rode the "F" model this time, it can also be seen as a fully compatible version of the Ninja 650. I think it's a bit too extravagant for a second bike... I think I'm going to have a fight with my Ninja 650. So I made another rental reservation for the GSX-S750 this weekend.
freebie (e.g. with a purchase)
As I mentioned the other day, I'm torn between buying more motorcycles and buying a used FIAT 500 or similar small foreign car that I can drive around.....
